Wakefield Park
Let's Get The Ball Rolling!
Wakefield Park is a joint initiative between the Wellington City Council and Island Bay United AFC's Senior and Junior Clubs, in an attempt to get more benefit out of Wakefield Park for the future recreation of everyone within the Wellington Region.
Meeting - 17 November 2009
The meeting on 17 November 2009 was attended by 4 Wellington City Councilors (Celia Wade-Brown, Brian Pepperell, Rob Goulden, Andrew Foster), the IB residents Association, Brooklyn Northern United AFC, Olympic AFC, IB Softball, Island Bay United AFC, Local Residents, and Park Neighbours, Sport Wellington and Chaired by The CEO of Sports Wellington Mr Paul Cameron.
After general questions about turf recycling, footwear, potential impact on minority sports, and the potentail relocation of cricket, a show of hands to indicate support for the proposal was almost unanimous. There we no strong dissenting voices.
Therefore, the support for the project has been proven, although as usual the BIG question is, FUNDING! Can you help?
The WCC advised that the LTCCP planned for 1 artificial for 2011, and then 2 year later, the roll out of 4 artificials over 4 years. Andrew Foster mentioned that this is only a Council decision that could be changed and encouraged us to lobby council accordingly.
