Can You Help Us?

Wakefield Park is a joint initiative between the Wellington City Council and Island Bay United AFC's Senior and Junior Clubs, in an attempt to get more benefit out of Wakefield Park for the future recreation of everyone within the Wellington Region.

What's the big deal?

Wellington's grounds are already overcrowded, and when you add in the fact that the weather causes severe ground shortages (particularly for all Winter codes), it becomes a big problem, and needs solving now rather than later!

The Problem: It's not always open!

Our annual rainfall is high - Over 1,200mm a year! Every Winter, this causes huge sports cancellations.

Wellington Football has seen an increase of 15% in senior players since 2004 (similar to junior increases), who all need fields.

Kiwi's work in more sedentary jobs than previous generations, but still want to stay fit and healthy.

wccWellington City Council is working to improve sporting facilities by creating artificial sportsfield surfaces. The first of these is the 'third generation' artificial surface on the upper field at Nairnville Park, which was completed in April 2009.
